2014 F150 Third Brake Light Overview

This new solution from Precision Design is a great value and feature upgrade over a factory Raptor or standard 2014 F150 third brake light. It has an aggressive look, iconic three red LED Raptor brake-lights and 2 bright chase lights. It is by far one of our favorites of all the 3rd brake light options. It does require a bit more hands-on work to install over OEM or other aftermarket options but overall it’s a great upgrade for any Ford F150.

*Note it does fit any 2009-2014 F150 or F150 Raptor

The Pros
  • Raptor Style 3 LED Lighting
  • Built in Chase lights
  • Great Price
The Cons
  • Requires some cutting (still backward compatable with OEM light)
  • Requires some wire splicing

My Old Brake Light

My old third brake light was beat up and worn out. It was actually starting to yellow and flicker, and the iconic f150 LED 3rd brake light that Raptors have had burnt out (which is a common problem) and the previous owner put this short LED strip in so we’re going to swap that out with a product from Precision Design – 2014 f150 third brake light.

2014 F150 Third Brake Light Installation

Tools Needed

  • Drill with a Phillips head
  • Drill bits
  • A Pen
  • Masking tape (to protect the paintduring the cutting)
  • A cutoff wheel (or something to so the cutting with)
  • Touchup paint or nail polish

Overall the installation was pretty straight forward. Follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer. There is some cutting needed to clearance for the large chase lights, but don’t worry you can still reinstall the factory light and it completely covers and seals around the new clearance area. Also make sure and check the instructions on the Manufacturer’s site. There are different wiring configurations for the Raptor vs standard F150. Final Thoughts

The 2014 F150 third brake light is a big upgrade from the factory light for sure. The black housing really accents the truck well for 2009-2014 owners. Works flawlessly. I opted to wire the chase lights into the previous auxiliary lighting circuit and those chase lights are just so bright. If you are on the job site a lot at night or are using your truck as the sun goes down the auxiliary chase lights are extremely useful.

Those chase lights are just so bright!

The brake lights have a DOT rating and are as bright if not a bit brighter than the red brake lights on the OEM raptor unit. I also noticed that the Raptor chase lights are a pretty standard size so you can swap them out if you wanted the more common yellow or wanted a different brand. The housing is a 3d printed design, but not your standard cheap off the shelf cheap plastic. It seems to be a strong and UV resistant ABS that has also been painted with a tough black coating. Looks like it should hold up well.
