Ford Maverick Truck Upgrade Options

If you are driving a Ford Maverick truck for the first time or are planning to own one, you may have been enticed by its optional 2.0L EcoBoost power plant they have upgraded severally over the last ten years. Most buyers love its unibody platform that is similar to the Bronco Sport and the Escape that gives it its car-esque look.

The 2021 Maverick allows for several upgrades and modifications. This makes it easy to customize it to the buyers’ tastes and needs. Its unibody model enables upgrades with a wide range of aftermarket fitments.

Some people view these upgrades and modifications as a dilution of the automobile scene. They think the hybrid implies the death of non-crossbreed cars.

This could be true as vehicle manufacturers are increasingly embedding features that make it easy to infuse parts with aftermarket bolt-ons that integrate with fitments from other brands or vehicles by the same manufacturer.  For instance, the Maverick’s framework resembles that of the hatchback, while its rear suspension is a clone of the Fiesta ST.

Search for fitments from other auto brands to modify your 2021 Maverick to your taste and needs. Here are some of the upgrades you can do on your new heavy goods vehicle to improve its performance and appeal.

Performance

Your Maverick has either a 2.5L hybrid or 2.0L EcoBoost. The EcoBoost has more room for upgrades. Here are a few:

Physical Modifications

The EcoBoost has been in existence for a while. Some of the available upgrades include inter-coolers, custom exhausts, performance catted or catless down-pipes, cold air intakes, and turbo upgrades.

However, bolt-in kits are still not available in the market until companies like Borla consider making them. EcoBoost is named so as it is expected that you will upgrade the engine to enhance its performance. Search and use the combination of upgrades that work for you.

Tuning

Companies like Cobb, Livernois, 5-Star, Unleashed, and Mountune use proprietary flashers and SCT for a PMC tune of the engine models used on the 2021 Ford pickups.  With a simple tuning of 2021 Ford’s firmware, you may secure a substantial boost on the performance of your 2021 Ford pickup.

You can use several available bolt-ons to get your new car to 60mph in about 6 seconds, assuming it weighs as much as an AWD 2.0L EcoBoost Fusion. With the number of bolt-ons on the market, you can execute a wide range of upgrades.

Custom Tune Potential + 26 Horsepower & 32 lbs of torque

Except from Eric at Tune Plus…

Not to shabby of a gain, but there is definitely more to be had. I ran into some setbacks and need to work with HPTuners to get some changes added to the software and need access to a few different tables. Once we get that sorted out I believe we will be able to pick up another 10-15whp on 93oct.

Not to Shabby of a gain, but there is definitely more to be had

Unfortunately the turbo is pretty much maxed out right off the get go. On the stock tune the truck in the top end has the turbo at 100% from 5000-7000rpm. So any BIG gains this truck will ever see in it’s life is not going to be from airflow it is going to be from timing and running a higher octane fuel or ethanol.

So if anyone has a dream of a 300whp+ Maverick you’ll have to wait until we get a turbo upgrade option on the market along with some bolt ons. I’m not going to stop until this thing kills the transmission which I’m going to guess is going to be around 350-400whp but lets hope not!

More Extreme Performance options

Powertrain Swaps

If you are unhappy that your 2021 Maverick does not come in RWD, see if a Bronco Sport two-clutch can work for you. It is a rear-biased AWD structure featuring GOAT modes, among other RWD enabling features.

This would be a good starting point for anyone who badly needs RWD. However, the swap may be challenging but possible nonetheless.

You can swap it with a Rangers longitudinally-mounted RWD engine.

You can connect the EcoBoost Mustang’s MT82, Fiesta ST pedal, Focus ST, or a manual Bronco Sport to give your 2021 Maverick a manual transmission.

Powertrain and Traction Upgrades

For an off-road juggernaut, an FX4 variant, diff coolers, transfer case coolers, or Trans coolers will help keep your fluids from turning into sludge. There are currently no news of anyone who has tried this upgrade, but it would be easy to do and worth trying.

If you need more traction, you can boost the weight of your 2021 pickup by adding crossmembers beneath that unibody. Fix frame rail reinforcements to stiffen your van to give it better traction for your off-road activities. Connect the frame rails rearwards for the best results on stiffening and strengthening the unibody of your compact truck.

Suspension

Lowered suspension

looking for improved handling or just and aggressive stance you might consider a lowered look. the maverick shares the same platform as the Ford Focus and will likely have plenty of options in short order to drop you ride to the ground.

Lifted maverick

Need more ground clearance, or room to fit bigger grippier off-road tires? There will be plenty looking get a few more inches by lifting there new Ford Maverick. The maverick also shares the same platform as the Bronco Sport.

There are already level and lift kits for the bronco sport but these are mostly spacers that are limited to 2-3″ max. After which point there is too much strain on the stock components. Likely a more extensive kit will be need to replace control arms, sway bars, steering links and driveshaft to accommodate more extreme options.

Best Lift Kit – Readylift 1.5″ Level Kit

ford maverick readylift 1.5 inch level kit

One of the first and best lift kits on the market. Remember this is a unibody vehicle most lift kits will be less the 2″. This kit allows you to run a 245/65-17 tire on 17×8 wheel with +40 mm offset.

Kit includes

  • 1.5-inch front top mount spring spacer.
  • 1.5-inch rear spring spacer.
  • Strut spacer retains the factory alignment and suspension geometry.
  • CNC machined billet aluminum rear sub frame spacers
  • Easy bolt on installation – no permanent modifications.

Suspension Components

You can use bushing from any brand, as they are mostly universal in design. As long as you know the diameter of the bar and how the bushings look, you can search for similar ones widely available in the market, such as Prothane and Energy Suspension.

EXTERIOR

Our tastes may differ, but most people would agree that the rear of the 2021 Maverick is superb, but not the front. The front lacks aggressiveness and can do with several modifications. Here are some of the upgrades you can include on the exterior:

Windows

Tint your windows based on your references and local laws. 20% all around and 15% visor strip from corner to corner of the windscreen would enhance your privacy and give the car a sleeker look. Ensure the tint does not hinder your vision at night.

Body Decals

Just a little vinyl graphic work goes along way to set your truck apart. There has already been a ton of option from hood graphics, bedside graphics an tailgate inlays that won’t break the bank either.

Wheels

Ford is marketing the 2021 Maverick truck as the ‘grocery-getter. The wheels have a city-oriented, soft-edge look. You can modify this and probably choose the 5 x 108 that is common with Ford products.

The 5 x 108 configuration allows you a wide choice of upgrades. You can pick cool-looking wheels from Fusion Ranger, Explorer, Bronco Sport, Mustang, among others, for a better look and superior wheel performance.

Trim

The small, low-price, silver-painted plastic edge is trending on most cars. However, you can pick the more sophisticated gloss-black trim. Grey and matte black also look sleeker than silver.

If you are not sure of the ornamentation that you want, experiment with X-Acto or spray paint.  Cover your trimming with adhesive tape, spray paint it with the decorations of your choice and let it dry.

Lighting

Led Light Bar on Truck

There may not be aftermarket lighting units, but they are bound to be released as there is an increasing demand for cooler-looking units for the 2021 trucks. You may modify parts of the lighting with fitments from other Ford vehicles.

The headlights of the Maverick are not appealing.  They make it look bulky, while most people prefer a slim-athletic look that gives an auto a capable look.

Search for sleek LED taillights and use them to replace the outdated halogen ones on your 2021 pickup

Tint the taillights with a material that lets all discharged light pass through.

You can tint the turn signals. They would look excellent if you blacked out the ‘bar’ that traverses the grille under which the turn signals are positioned.

Interior

Strut Braces and Braking

Strut braces are significant when you want to increase chassis strength and rigidity for advanced off-road suspension, Baja racing, or to modify your compact pickup into a street truck.

Since the vehicle is a unibody, you have a wide selection of strut braces for when you need them.  The new cars aftermarket strut braces may not be on the market yet but they are likely to be available soon.

You can boost your braking system with bolt-on mods available on the market at affordable fees. The Bronco Sports may offer the best option for braking system mods bolt-ons.

Search for Bronco Sports badland edition. You can also check if Ranger and Explorer have braking system mods that can be fixed on your new 2021 Ford vehicle.

Monitoring and Infotainment Upgrades

You can upgrade your infotainment and monitoring system to have a central configuration. This enables Cruise Control, allowing you to change parameters easily without having to search down all applicable codes in the diverse modules to fix it. You can edit your Ford’s infotainment and monitoring parameters via the ELM327.

You can also connect your steering wheel switch pack to a laptop to modify your electronic architecture to support cruise control.
