Before we go to the install and review portion, let’s get to know the specifications of the AlphaRex F150 Tail Light.
These F150 LED tail lights come with two LED tubes that function as parking lights. The red LED lights just between the light tubes work as brake lights. They also work as standard blinking turn signal lights. The reverse light is located at the bottom and you can apply your stock halogen light bulbs.
These tail lights come with a light smoke lens with either clear and red housing or jet black housing. The red clear housing provides the truck a stock housing look and this matches with all exterior colors while the jet black housing provides a more sporty style and feel. The red clear housing LED tail lights have a red LED tube. The jet black housing LED tail lights have a white LED tube.
The AlphaRex F150 tail lights are made of (PC) polycarbonate plastic lens. There is also a layer of coating applied for protecting the lens against oxidation and yellowing.
These tail lights are of OE quality and are compliant with DOT and SAE regulations.
Installing the AlphaRex Tail Lights
Now that we’ve gone through what these tail lights have to offer, I’m so excited to see what’s in the box. By the way, you need to prepare your tools. All you need is a 5/16 in. socket or a wrench in order to get the old lights out.
Steps to Install the AlphaRex F-150 Tail Light
1. Remove the bolts that hold it in.
2. Pull the light out. Take the big tug. Don’t be afraid.
3. Pull the lighting connectors out.
4. Then you want to pull the bulbs out. You don’t need those anymore since we’re replacing them with LED bulbs.
5. Keep your reverse light bulb.
6. Grab the new light.
7. Attach the connectors into the bulb socket and attach the reverse light into the bottom, keeping the bolt from your reverse light.
8. Then insert the bulb sockets back in.
9. Keep it nice and weather tight and put the light back in.
What you want to notice is the nub on the end. You actually have to line up in the back and then push, and you’re in.
10. Put the bolts back in. Hold it in place. You’ve got your first tail light to go.
11. Repeat all steps for the other tail light.
Installing the AlphaRex F150 tail light can be an easy DIY project at home. It won’t require you to hire a mechanic or a technician just to get these installed. Just make sure that you have the proper tools ready. In addition, it would be best to perform these steps on a location with proper lighting so that you could clearly see the parts that you will be removing and inserting. It won’t take long to get these brake lights installed so rest assured that this is just a quick DIY project.
Review and Thoughts
Now that I have finished installing the AlphaRex F150 tail light, it’s time for our in-depth review.
Appearance of the AlphaRex Tail Lights
The most apparent thing about these lights that I love is how red and uniform they are. Most aftermarket lights have a clear lens with obnoxious chrome inside. What I like most is that the red smoked lens give them a subtle factory look until you flip them on and they turn bold and aggressive with the LED brake lights and the parking lamp accents.

The first thing I noticed about these brake lights is that they stick out a little bit larger and a little more rounder compared to the factory ones that are more straight. That’s not a bad thing. They also have a really good fit, nice and tight and snug. However, there is one where there’s a bigger gap than normal but it does recede down. Can’t notice it too much.
There are 2 color options. Red smoke (picture above) and the standard black smoke. Here is a shot of the Alpharex black smoke lens by a F150 Nation member. Its a bit more clear than the “red smoke” if you looking for a look that stands out more during the day.
Function of the AlphaRex Tail Lights
As soon as you get them working, you will immediately notice these differences: parking lamp, brake lamp, that LED look, it’s just really just a big update from the factory. The lights are very clear and it definitely showcased an upgraded look, mostly because of the LED lights. The LED upgrade offered a huge difference in a positive way.
What are the best F150 Tail lights?
We recommend the AlphaRex tail lights or the Recon Tail lights for the Ford F150. Both are high quality bright and designed to last. For a full review of all the options we have looked at, check out our Ultimate Guide for F150 Tail Lights
